Marine birthday 10nov

Today is November 10th, the day that 241 years ago one of the greatest fighting forces the world has ever known was created at a place called Tun Tavern. They have been called Leathernecks, earned during the expedition against the Barbary Pirates ending in Tripoli, under the leadership of First Lieutenant Presley O’Bannon. In World War I, the Germans called them Devil Dogs, earned during their tenacious offensive actions in Belleau Wood in France. They sloughed it out island by island in the Pacific during World War II and gave this Nation one of the most iconic pictures in our military history, raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi, the black volcanic sands of Iwo Jima. At a faraway place called Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War, 10 Chinese divisions surrounded Col. Lewis Berwell Puller’s 1st Marines. The indomitable “Chesty” Puller saw the situation with his own brand of logic: “Those poor bastards,” he said. “They’ve got us right where we want them. We can fire in any direction now!”
They fight in the jungles, they fight in the desert sands…they attack from air, on land, or sea. They are the few, they are the Proud. My older Brother once wore the Scarlet and Gold and fought as a combat infantryman. They are the ones who keep their sacred honor clean. Happy 241st Birthday to my Brothers and Sister Warriors, the United States Marines.
Semper Fidelis, Ooh Rah!!!!
